Why not set up a food co-operative in your school?

Have you ever thought about setting up a food co-operative in your school? This inspirational video shows the benefits of setting up a food co-operative – “an easy and inexpensive way of getting great tasting fruit and vegetables into your school”.

The video, made by the Rural Regeneration Unit, which has supported twenty food co-operatives in schools in Wales, shows children help harvest food, which is bought in bulk and sold to parents and relatives. It espouses the environmental, social and health benefits of fresh, local, seasonal food with visits to local farmers and charming animations.

Sustain, the alliance for better food and farming, has also created a free toolkit on setting up a food co-operative or buying group in your school, which can be read as a pdf here.
