Young Co-operators named Young Volunteers of the Year

Young Co-operators from Fulston Manor School are awarded The Co-operative's Young Volunteers of the Year by Paralympic athlete Sophia Warner

Two Young Co-operators from Fulston Manor School in Sittingbourne, Kent, were awarded joint Young Volunteer of the Year 2011 at the Co-operative Group’s Volunteer of the Year awards.

Jack Palmer and Ben Sargeant, who are both Year 9 students at the school, were nominated for all the hard work and commitment they put into being part of the Young Co-operatives group at Fulston and were invited to the award ceremony in the Prince Albert Suite at London Zoo last Saturday evening.

The award was presented by Sophia Warner, a Paralympic athlete who is hoping to gain a place in next year’s Olympics. Jack said that he thought his heart was going to jump out of his chest when his name was called. Mr Brookes, Headteacher, said: “I am so proud of both of them. At Fulston Manor we place great emphasis on developing the attributes for which Ben and Jack have been recognised and this award is something very special for all of us. Great credit should also be given to Mrs Palmer, our community cohesion manager, who has been responsible for creating the opportunities which Ben and Jack have taken with such success.”
