Day 2 - Sunday 13 December

Sunday 13 December 2009 brought hot weather, interesting facts and a long journey.

The Creadle of Humankind

Our day started at 7:45am when the group met for breakfast in the dining room. The breakfast was served straight away with a great choice of hot and cold food. After our breakfast we dashed back to the rooms to grab our belongings before travelling to Maropeng the Cradle of Humankind museum. The drive took around a two hours and we saw the outskirts of Johannesburg, which deepened our culture knowledge.

Upon arrival the museum we were greeted and briefed and by our tour guide, Steven, he showed us to the first part of the museum, which was based under what looked like an ancient burial mound. We learnt about the history of humans and time before that! To learn about the start of the earth and its history we took a small

boat ride inside the museum (which was a very bazaar experience) while the sun was shining outside we were enduring wind, rain and snow inside. This was to help explain the history of the planet. After the boat we were all amazed on the knowledge we had learnt and the technology of the museum. Our adventure continued with some interactive activities in the latter part of the museum.

The museum bought us some unknown facts and knowledge and we were very pleased to have been given the opportunity. When leaving the museum we were told that the president of Africa was soon to be arriving and that he was to have the same cultured experience as we did, this just showed us how very special this trip is turning out to be.

The rest of the day is being spent driving the 4 hour journey to Lesotho, but the journey is ok because of the built in entertainment of our teachers and high spirits of the students.
