Fulston Manor visit to the Quays

The Quays

Students from Fulston Manor School, a co-operative business and enterprise college in Sittingbourne, Kent were given a guided tour of local homeless shelter The Quays, when they visited to present a cheque for £154 following their Young Co-operative’s Sports Day fundraising activities.

The students decided to donate the profit made from selling refreshments to The Quays as they had been lucky enough to be part of some sessions where David McDonald, a resident of The Quays, came to talk about the perils of homelessness and his life experiences.

Donna Lee from The Quays said: “We have worked with Fulston Manor for some years now and we are so grateful to receive funding which will go towards the many opportunities we offer our residents. We are only a short term solution for homelessness but hope that by the time our residents leave they have learnt new skills and are better prepared to cope with day-to-day issues.”

All three students felt honoured to be given a tour of The Quays by Rebecca Hubbard, an ex-Fulston Manor Student, who explained all of the facilities available. They said: “We were proud to present the cheque and see David again. He made such an impact at school and it was nice to be able to say thank you this way.”
