Street dance Young Co-operative raises £548 at summer show

On Thursday 28 June, the Ruptors, a Young Co-operative street dance group from Lipson Community College, a co-operative converter Academy in Plymouth, organised and held a ‘summer show’. The evening was to help raise money for the Ruptors to attend the World Street Dance Championships this August as well as buy new kit for the younger teams.

Ruptors member Amy Sluggett explains:

“The evening included the Ruptors along with our younger dance crews TNG, Electrics and UpBeatz. We also invited other acts to perform at the show including singer Becky Cheetham, dancers Mike Berry, Hannah Netting, Jordan Dunn, Street Factory, Funky Breakers and Italia Conti Associates.

The evening was a huge success with excellent comments from the audience and the auditorium was completely full. In the interval, people were able to buy homemade Ruptors cupcakes and win excellent prizes in the raffle, including tickets to Paignton Zoo and Plymouth Argyle Football Club as well as a home baked Ruptors cake.

The evening raised £548, which will contribute greatly to getting Ruptors to the World Champs and get new training kit for our other crews. The evening was photographed by our local paper ‘The Herald’ and will feature in the paper in the upcoming weeks.”
