From Kent to Lesotho: linking young co-operators across the world

A Young Co-operatives co-ordinator from Sittingbourne, Kent has written about the links her school is making with young people in Lesotho for the Fairtrade school uniform company Koolskools’ blog.

Sarah Palmer, Community Cohesion Manager at co-operative business and enterprise college Fulston Manor, visited Lesotho in 2010 as part of a trip organised by the Co-operative College for staff from co-operative schools.

Sarah writes about her eye-opening experiences of the country, and the differences between the lives of young people in the UK and Lesotho, saying: “My experience helping facilitate the African Youth and Student Forum in Lesotho will stay with me for the rest of my life. The problems they have to contend with as a nation puts our local concerns into perspective and I felt very humble at their resilience and positivity. I managed to link up with a teacher from Lesotho and am in the process of getting our students here to write letters to their new friends.”
