Japan's student co-operative movement is 1 million strong

Dr Kokichi Shoji, President of the National Federation of University Co-operative Associations

More than 1 million students are now members of student-led co-operatives providing services in Japanese universities!

Japan's 192 student-led co-operatives, which are present in one in four universities, date back to the post-Second World War era and provide services ranging from book shops and dining halls to IT repairs, housing and mutual insurance.
The co-operatives are owned by their customers, who include students as well as university and faculty staff.
